The railway between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster passes through the towns of Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands and Carnforth, offering spectacular views across Morecambe Bay and the Kent Estuary. The short journey from Lancaster to Morecambe takes you to one of England's classic seaside towns with its backdrop of the Lakeland Fells.

For much of the journey between Lancaster and Barrow, there are views across Morecambe bay.The bay straddles the boundaries of Lancashire and Cumbria. It is the largest intertidal area in the UK with its shining sandbanks, mudflats and constantly changing channels.These are flanked by saltmarshes, hidden beaches, headlands and low cliffs, all backed by distant views of the Lake District mountains or the Bowland Fells. The five spectacular estuaries are backed by fells and moors but are also close to large towns and cities. The bay is constantly changing and is a place worthy of a visit in all seasons. The hardy and adventurous can take a guided walk across the sands or spend quiet hours birdwatching at one of Europe's most important sites for wildlife. Not only does the bay have world class natural attractions but people have lived and built settlements around it for thousands of years. There are Iron Age, Roman, Saxon, Viking  and Norman remains around the bay along with plenty of Georgian, Victorian, modern and local Lakeland architecture.
